Judy Kay Steiss, age 62, of Owosso entered eternity on Monday, May 18th, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Owosso Church of Christ with Minister Steve Lockwood officiating. Family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm.
Judy was born on June 15th, 1952, the eldest child of James and Joyce Steiss. She graduated from Owosso High School in 1970. Judy then attended Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in Flint, Michigan, graduating in 1973. Judy started her career at the Owosso Memorial Hospital in 1973, on 1 Main, a medical floor. In 1977, she took a position as the afternoon charge nurse in the Critical Care Unit, where she continued to work until April 2015. Judy served as a preceptor, training countless nurses over her 41-year career. Judy will always be remembered as the last nurse at Memorial Healthcare to continue to wear her nurse's cap. Her knowledge and professionalism will be unequaled.
Judy was a lifelong member of Owosso Church of Christ, where she served as choir director, performed special music, and taught Sunday school. Judy especially enjoyed attending University of Michigan and Grand Valley State football games, watching her nieces perform in their college marching bands.
Judy was preceded in death by her mother Joyce and niece Amber Rechner. She is survived by her father James of Owosso, brothers James Jr. (Robin) Steiss of Green River, Wyoming and Jeffrey (Angela) Steiss of Perry; sister Julie (Steve) Lehman of Ithaca; nephews Shane (Annie) Steiss, Hunter Steiss, and Levi Lehman; nieces Lauryn, Lyndsey and Lacey Lehman; great-nephews Garren and Kyler Steiss; and great-niece Sidney Steiss. Memorial contributions may be made to the Owosso Church of Christ or Memorial Healthcare - Critical Care Unit.
