MERRILL, Basil LeRoy – of Davison, age 79 passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Pines of Burton. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM , Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Dan Hester, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Davison VFW Post # 4087.
Basil was born in Mt. Morris, MI on February 3, 1940, son of the late Richard and Ethel (LaPointe) Merrill. He married Shirley Granger on March 25, 1961. She preceded him in death in 2012. Basil loved being outdoors; enjoying fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed his time at Buick; working there for 30 years. Basil will be fondly remembered for all of the homes he had remodeled or restored over the years, and all of the special touches he added during his days as a builder. He enjoyed life and all of the good times he had with his family and friends.
Basil is survived by his children, Duane (Sheila) Merrill, Julie (Tim) Hester, Shawn (Erica) Merrill; grandchildren, Jacob (Brianna) Merrill, Garrett Hester, Brennan Merrill, Logan Merrill; great-grandchildren, Fiona Merrill, Gideon Merrill; step-grandchildren, Jason (Teri) Hester, Nicole (Jason) Babin; siblings, Richard (Bethany) Merrill, Bruce (Wilda) Merrill; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ethel Merrill, and his wife, Shirley.
