SERVICE CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
Elva Pulido Thwing, 80, passed away in Midland, Michigan on Sunday, December 1, 2019 with family at her side. A memorial service will be held 2pm, January 11, 2020 at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St. Flint, MI. Family will receive visitors from 1pm until time of service, then until 5pm after the service. She was born in Zacatecas, Mexico on September 22, 1939, the daughter of Francisca Rodriguez de Pulido & Crececiano Carillo Pulido. She was joined in marriage to Ralph Thwing January 4, 1961. Elva had 6 siblings (Lillian, Celia, Angelina, Rodolfo, Javier Francisco & Chris). The family immigrated to Flint, Michigan in the 1940’s. She is survived by daughter Maria (Don) Young, grandchildren Melody and Rafael, son Robert (Penny) Harper, grandchildren Cassandra and Rebecca, great grandchildren Kyan, Rhys, Elaina and Ryleigh, daughter-in-law Jill Thwing, grandchildren Jason and Jeremy. Elva is also survived by her sibling Lillian Alvarado and two sisters-in-law Carmen Pulido and Phyllis Thwing, many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was a devote catholic attending mass every week, worked as a head cook for the Lakeville school system for many years. Elva was an amazing cook, and you never left hungry, she also became involved with and loved the volunteer work for the Genesee County Sheriff department as a “Special Deputy”. She loved spending time and watching her great grandchildren play.
In her later years, Elva stayed busy making jewelry, crafts, loved to play bingo and attend social events. She was very proud of her Mexican heritage and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years Ralph Thwing, son James Thwing, her parents Francisca Rodriguez de Pulido & Crececiano Carillo Pulido, siblings Celia, Angelina, Rodolfo, Javier Francisco & Chris, granddaughter Rachel Harper.
