MATTIS, Gerald Delbert – of Birch Run, age 91, died Friday, November 29, 2024 at The Oaks at Woodfield in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run, Michigan. Pastor Sue Trinklein officiating. Burial in Birch Run Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run, Michigan. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the Dementia - Alzheimer’s Association.
Jerry was born April 2, 1933 in Flint, Michigan to the late Theodore and Elsie (Mieske) Mattis. He grew up in Birch Run, Michigan and graduated from Birch Run High School with the class of 1951. He proudly served his country in the US Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955. On December 27, 1975, Jerry married Brenda Harrison in Birch Run, Michigan. Prior to his retirement in 1995, Jerry worked for Universal Engineering as a Machine Operator with 45 years of service. Jerry was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved fishing in his boat named Dear Meat. He was an avid bowler and bowled two 300 games in his lifetime. Jerry loved to golf and had a hole in one in his eighties. For many years of his life Jerry enjoyed running, running marathons and was an avid Tiger’s fan. Jerry was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and served as an Usher for several years. He was also a member of the Clio Eagles Aerie # 3609, Birch Run Moose Lodge # 2426, and a lifetime member of the Birch Run VFW Post # 7542.
Surviving are: Wife of 48 years, Brenda Mattis; Children, Scott Harrison, Tracy and Gary Perakovic; Grandchildren, Shaun and Hannah Perakovic, Aaron and Kara Perakovic; Great Grandchildren, Zach Perakovic, Zoe Perakovic; Sister in law, Irene Mattis; Nephews, Dale Mattis, Ted Mattis; Niece, Julie and Mike Babcock; Great Nephew, Justin Mattis.
