Jim was born in Bay City, Michigan on January 26, 1921, to Elizabeth (Nix) and James Middleton. He grew up in Flint and also attended CCC Camp in the Upper Peninsula as a young adult.
On February 22, 1941 Jim married Ann Stella Solarz at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint.
Following the start of World War II, Jim joined the U.S. Navy. His childhood hobby of hunting with rifles prepared the way for him to be a “gunner” on ship, with its destination of The Pacific Theater-specifically with the invasion of the Philippines at Manila Bay.
Upon his return stateside, Jim began his journey with General Motors.
He was proud to be a UAW member and to be in Skilled Trades. After 38 years, he retired as a millwright at Buick Plant 6 in 1978.
He and Ann built their dream home in 1952 on Rowland Street. They lived there for 60 years, with many family celebrations and holiday gatherings.
Jim’s love of the outdoors, hunting, woodworking, reading of history, gardening, and playing cards kept him busy throughout his retirement.
He continued to be the inventor as well with his creative mind.
He worked very hard to give his family a better life than he had growing up in the Depression Era.
Jim and Ann were charter members of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton for over 50 years. He enjoyed his role as usher and as a supporter of the Family Center and School.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; son-in-law, Larry Green, two brothers, Willard and Ruel; sister, Hilda, and three grandchildren.
In closing, the family wishes to thank Dr. Shafi Ahmend, MD; and dedicated caregivers: Dawn, Kathy, Cheryl and Janiel.
