ATCHISON, Rex James - Of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at American House Grand Blanc.
A Memorial Service will be held 7:30pm Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Chaplain Goodman L. Cox officiating.
Visitation 5pm Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, 10am Friday, July 22, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christopher Atchison “Live the Dream” Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Atchison was born in Flint on September 13, 1925, the son of the late Donna Marie (Martel) and Floyd Atchison and step-father Chelsea Rose. Mr. Atchison graduated from Port Huron Junior College and was a proud veteran of the Army serving in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for the Deckerville Post Office, Westinghouse and General Electric retiring from both after a long career as a National Sales Account Manager selling electrical supplies for manufactured homes. Mr. Atchison was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton, and Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc. He enjoyed many retirement years in Bradenton, Florida and was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also an avid University of Michigan and Norte Dame football fan.
Surviving are beloved son, Gary (Beverly) Atchison, devoted grandson, Zachary Atchison, loving sister-in-law, Nancy Atchison and many loving nieces and nephews;
Sons, Rick Atchison, Randy (Stephanie) Atchison; grandson, Nicholas;
Granddaughter, Elizabeth (Harry) and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael Rex Atchison, two brothers, Jack (Audrey) Atchison, Willis (Bill) Atchison and sister, Joyce Meagher.
