JACKSON, Wayne Leon - of Lapeer, age 78, passed away June 5, 2019 at VA Medical Center – Ann Arbor. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Saturday, June 8, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 8192 Davison Rd., Davison; Dr. David Weber officiating. Burial with Military Honors under the auspices of the Lapeer American Legion Post #16 will be in Oregon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Friday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Wayne was born in East Prairie, MO on January 1, 1941, son of the late Amos and Flora (York) Jackson. He married JoAnn on August 28, 1999. Wayne proudly served with the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, serving three campaigns in Vietnam and was an Agent Orange survivor. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, life member of the Lapeer VFW Post #4139, Davison VFW Color Guard and Vietnam Veterans of America and belonged to the Tuscarora Native American Tribe of North Carolina. Wayne was an artist, cultural historian, Native American storyteller, dancer and musician. He carried an Agent Orange staff for victims and survivors of Agent Orange.
Wayne is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Wayne Jr., Karrie Spicer, Christina Wilhoyt, Brenda Monaco, Robin Kirch, John Jackson, and Jennifer Jackson; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Sonny (Judy). He was preceded in death by daughter, Cindy and seven siblings.
