SCHAEFER, Heinrich Peter (Pete) – of Flint, age 56, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 28, 2013 after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Per Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will be held from 2-7 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Lake Fenton Sail Club, 2301 Sonora Dr., Fenton Township, MI 48430. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to ALS of Michigan, www.alsofmichigan.org.
Peter was born on October 22, 1957 in Darmstadt, Germany, but has called Flint his home since 1968. He graduated with honors from Kearsley High School Class of 1976 and received a B.A. in Business Administration from Central Michigan University in 1981. Peter spent most of his working life at Ray’s Moving Service. He was a hardworking and talented man who enjoyed playing guitar, riding his motorcycle and sailing. His sharp mind and sense of humor, which he bravely held onto until the very end, will be missed by many.
Peter is survived by his mother, Emilie Paxton of Genesee; his partner, Tina Corbin of Flint; daughter, Erica (David) Sandusky; step-children, Tessa, Daniel and Courtney; grandchildren, Aubrie, Nathan, Joshua, Jorden, Jacob, Jasmine and Jessa; sister-in-law, Renate; cousins, Jurgen (Birgit), Reiner (Carina), Alina and Jan . He was preceded in death by his father, Heinrich; brother, William “Bill” Freudenberger; step-fathers, Master Sgt. Leroy Bancroft and C.D. “Dee” Paxton.
