DOBIS, Gordon James, age 71, died of natural causes at his home on March 13, 2019.
Gordon was born in Flint, Michigan on November 8, 1947. He was the son of William J. Dobis and Pauline Mary (Zawislak) Dobis. Gordon was a 1965 graduate of Fenton High School. In 1969 he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1972 with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. He also earned a Doctor of Law from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1986.
Gordon spent his professional life serving others as a counselor and caseworker for various agencies. He ascended to a position of Supervisor and Director in the State of Michigan's Family Independence Agency. He was also a United States Army Reserve Commissioned Officer.
Gordon was devoted to his mother, whose care he managed for twenty years until her death at 102.
Gordon is survived by his sister Barbara Beers and husband Carl; nephew Gregory Beers, nephew Kevin Beers and his wife Christine, and grand-niece Brianna Beers along with many cousins and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Burton. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Saturday followed by the memorial Mass. Luncheon to follow in the Family Life Center. Internment at St. John's Cemetery, Fenton at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Church or the charity of your choice.
