Charla was born November 26, 1946 in Saginaw, MI, to Gene and Doris Rogers. She graduated from Flushing High School in 1964. In 1966, Char married Michael Austin and had two daughters together. She went to Cosmetology School and spent many years working as a beautician during the day and at night worked at Luigi’s and El Toro’s in Flint, MI. In 1976, Char was hired at Buick and worked there until her retirement in 1996. She married David Moore in 1974. During their time together, they opened a bar named “Dirty Dave’s” and spent many fun-filled nights there together until the business burned down in the late 80’s. They would remarry another three times until his death in 1990. Charla married Isom Chauncey in 1991 and they spent many years enjoying their retirement together and moved to Steinhatchee, FL in 1997, where they spent the rest of their days together until Isom’s passing in April 2009.

Charla was a nanny for many years during her time in Steinhatchee, FL. She was also very active in her community with the Red Hats, Garden Club, Chamber Member of the local AARP, and was a loyal member to her Methodist Church. She spent many of her years traveling in her motorhomes around the country and was an enthusiastic Boston Terrier owner. After her spider bite in 2014, Charla moved to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to family. She spent her final years living with her eldest daughter, where she joined the Jacksonville North Mandarin Library Book Club. One of her greatest joys in her last years was her grandchildren having children. She was beyond thrilled to be a Grammy to Connor and Cora and was elated to hear the family was growing and two more great-grandchildren would be born this year.

She is survived by her daughters: Tammara (Shawn) Butterfield, and Christina (Sean) Etson; Grandchildren: Ashley (Steve) Weiss, Alicia (Daniel) Ferreira, Kelsea (Ben) Brock, Rebecca (Evan) Morse, Gavin (Maria) Etson, and Gabe Etson; Great-Grandchildren: Connor Weiss and Cora Ferreira; Brother, Wayne (Paula) Rogers; Aunts: Irene Williams and Donna Rogers; Special Friend, Stephanie Bell; Adored nieces and nephew, and many cherished cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Doris Rogers, and her husband’s, David Moore and Isom Chauncey. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Baptist Health and Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL for all their compassionate care of Charla during her final days.
