Kay S. Brown, née Morris, of Grand Blanc, Michigan died on June 15, 2024 of Pulmonary Fibrosis. Kay was born in Flint, Michigan on May 9, 1941, and was the eldest daughter of Egbert and Nell Morris, née Miller.
She was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, with the exception of 1948-1950 when she resided in Belfry, Kentucky. She attended the Flint Community Schools and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1959. She continued her education at Flint Junior College with the assistance of a nursing scholarship from the Genesee County Medical Society. She graduated in 1961 with a Registered Nursing degree.
On May 17, 1963, she married Albert Brown of Flint. She was employed at McLaren hospital for a few years and then began working for Dr. Phyllis O. Helcher, M.D. and remained there for 17 years. She worked a few years at the Weight Loss Clinic before working at Genesys Convalescent Center for the next 17 years. While at Genesys she developed the Restorative Nursing Program and served as the coordinator until her retirement in 2004. She was an original member of the Harvard Medical School Nurses Health Study and continued her membership for the past 45 years.
Kay attended Flint Central Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years. Kay was heavily involved in church where she taught Sunday School in the youth department, served in the information booth, made countless dresses for the Haiti Care Mission, served as wedding coordinator, a district assembly delegate, member of the district layman’s committee and served on a mission trip to Thailand.
In recent years, Kay served on the Flint Central High School Reunion Committee, served as a volunteer at the Grand Blanc Senior Center, leading weekly classes on strength and balance. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, and more shopping, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Albert, son, Matthew (Sheryl) Brown, daughter, Noelle (Wes) Nolen, four wonderful grandchildren, Austin (Mackenzie) Brown, Maggie Nolen and Max Nolen, sisters, Sue (John) Burns and Sally (Pete) Agnone and Brothers-in-law, Ben (Connie) Brown, Lewis Bivens and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Egbert and Nell Morris, father-in-law, Phillip Brown, brother, Danny Morris, brother-in-law, Larry Brown, mother-in-law, Hazel Brown and sister, Joy Rodes Bivens.
A visitation for Kay will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hill Funeral Home - 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene - 1261 Bristol Rd., Flint, Michigan. Kay will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, Michigan. |
