Jack J. Campbell

Born: 9/17/1942
Died: 9/29/2017
Age: 75
Community: Burton, MI

Campbell, Jack J.- Age 75, passed peacefully at home on September 29, 2017. Jack was born September 17, 1942 in Marston, MO, the son of Carl J. and Marcella (Bartlett) Campbell. They preceded his passing in 1990 and 2017, respectively. His parents brought him to Michigan as a young boy, while Carl pursued employment with General Motors. Jack attended Northern High School as a young man, and in the summer of 1962, met his bride to be, Paula A. Hoard. They married on April 6, 1963. They had one son, Rodney, in May of 1969. In the early 1970's wanting to create more of an opportunity for himself and his family, Jack, while employed with General Motors, began performing yard maintenance work and landscaping services to clients in the City of Flint and the surrounding communities. That business, Jack's Landscaping grew and prospered. Paula was soon recruited to do the bookwork and payroll, all at the dining room table/home office, while Jack sold the next job, scheduled the growing roster of work and supervised his small crew. He did this as well as maintained his employment with General Motors. That business blossomed and eventually transitioned into Custom Personalized Lawn Care and into the hands of the next generation. Jack maintained involvement in the areas he loved most which was the "back room" shop and all the equipment that went along with it. His ambition never waned and in 2005 he and Rodney began a commercial parking lot maintenance business which became known as Metro Asphalt Sealcoating. His dream and goal was to have his grandchildren become involved in the family businesses and he was fortunate enough to see this happen. Jack retired from General Motors V8 Engine Plant on February 1, 1993. To Jack, retirement was just a piece of paper. He remained active in the family businesses, always a sound ear for listening and offering words of encouragement when needed. Even as his health declined, he was adamant that he was going to get back to work and on the job with his parking lot crew. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in passage by his granddaughter, Sidney Alan Campbell, who's life may have been short, but was long in the memories and stories he and Paula shared. While he will be dearly missed, he has left his family and many close friends with endless stories and tales that will continue to be shared for years to come. To share those stories, he leaves his wife Paula; son, Rodney and wife Julie; granddaughter, Britanie Rountree; grandson,Wyatt Campbell; brother, Lanny and wife Mary Campbell; brothers-in-law, Ray and wife Hellen Hoard, Steve and wife Fran Hoard. Special recognition to Charlotte Taylor, his and Paula's home care taker and dear friend of the family. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 12-7 PM Wednesday and from 11 AM until the time of service Thursday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
