It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our sister, aunt, and good friend, Margaret Tackebury. Margaret was the daughter of James and Anna Smyth of Ireland and was born May 15, 1940 in New York, New York. Within the first 2 years of her life, her parents moved to Flint, MI. Margaret started school at St. Agnes Catholic Church and graduated in 1958. Margaret’s work career began at Sunset Drug Store, as a clerk and from there she moved to McDonald Dairy as the office manager but, her longest position was with Buick in the Personnel Department where she started in 1969 until her retirement in 1992. Margaret’s final position was at Dino’s Clothing Store as a clerk, which was great for Mr. Dino’s customers who had Margaret to help in choosing an outfit due to her impeccable dress sense. During the start of her work career at Sunset Drugs, she met the love of her life, Don Tackebury. They married on October 27, 1962 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint.
Throughout their married life, Margaret and Don enjoyed helping out at their church, Knights of Columbus and the Krapohl Senior Center. She was also a lifetime member of All Saints Catholic Church and a member of their Rosary Society.
Margaret, along with her husband, enjoyed traveling to Ireland several times to visit family members and with groups of friends for vacations. Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed taking pictures at family and friends events which has culminated in a wonderful array of photo albums that span a life of cherished memories for many people. In 2003, Margaret was unfortunately diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease which made her decide to stop working and spend more time with her husband. They did more traveling and visiting with family and friends, and made more wonderful memories together.
Margaret spent her final 2 years at Brookdale Grand Blanc (Clare Bridge) and often mentioned the special attention she received from the staff, the hospice team, friends and also the loving care from her niece, Linda. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers you may donate to All Saints Catholic Church or the Parkinson Foundation. Surviving are sister-in-law, Sue Hicks; brothers-in-law, Tom (Lois) Tackebury and Mike (Margie) Tackebury; many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don H. Tackebury; in-laws, Melvin Hicks, Adrian (Bud) and Georgia Tackebury, Patricia (Pat)and Max Van Raemdonck, Dorothy and Larry Burton and Kathleen (Kitty) Hipkins.
