ROOT (ROYER), Helen Maxine - Of Linden, age 79, died Thursday, December 19, 2019 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Monday, December 23, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Tom Hoose officiating.
Visitation 12pm-8pm Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the funeral home and 12pm on Monday until the time of the service.
Maxine was born in Flint, Michigan on November 26, 1940, the daughter of Joe B. and Helen (Matlock) Ham and was a resident of Genesee County her entire life.
Maxine worked for General Motors as a secretary and later Citizen’s Bank in the Trust Department. She also worked as an Administrative Secretary for the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and eventually became secretary to the Genesee County Clerk, retiring in 1994.
Maxine was an active member for many years at Riverside Tabernacle and more recently became active at Faith Church in Gaines, where she made many new and dear friends. Maxine loved playing church hymns on her piano. She was a gifted seamstress and made clothes, Halloween costumes and prom dresses for her girls. Maxine also loved to travel and took many cruises with her mother and sister and later special friends, John and Sharon Melpolder.
Surviving are,
daughters, Shellie (Michael) Odren, Susan (Loren) Jackson, Shawn (Matt) Ochs, Michelle (Deric) Holland;
grandchildren, Derek (Allie) Fine Jackson, Natalie (Joshua) Allison, Katie (David) Bodary, Tyler Hardin, Cristian (Jocylynn) Hardin, Erica Royer, Sam (Fiance Chloe Carter) Goldman, Alex Mistretta, Sarah Goldman and Alivia Moore;
5 great-grandchildren;
former husband, and lifelong best friend, Ronald Royer, and wife Marty, who was also a special friend;
brother, Ralph Ham;
step-daughters, Jennifer, who has always been so thoughtful of Maxine, Jackie and Janet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Les Root, parents and beloved sister, Ruth Roth.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to neighbors, Doug and Phyllis Hollanbaugh and cousin, Charmin Remillard who helped care for Maxine until her death.
