Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer; age 73 years. Judy Ann Kerns was born on October 17, 1943 in Saginaw, MI to the late Warren and Katherine (Summer) Kerns. She was married to Peter B. VanderHaar on April 13, 1991; he survives her. Judy was employed as a beautician and then as a manager at Citizens Bank for 23 years. She was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and the Frankenmuth Women’s Club. She excelled at being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time with her husband and her dog, Max, and also watching her grandkids in sports. She enjoyed golf, shopping, gardening, decorating and being with her many friends.
Surviving besides her husband, Peter, are her children, Darla Karwat, Renee Letherer, and Donald (Jennifer) Kerridge; grandchildren, John (“Boo”) and Kelcy Karwat; Kaylee Karwat and fiancée John Hopkins, Zoe and Zane Letherer, Austin and Alivia Kerridge; stepchildren, Brent VanderHaar, Jodi and Tim Meeuwenberg, Traci and David Stoppa, and Peter and Michelle VanderHaar; step-grandchildren, Allyson and Josh Steinley, Travis, Erica and Nathan VanderHaar, Matthew Pike, Joshua and Jake VanderHaar; sister, Bonnie Duquette and life-long friends Beverly Jessalaitis, Bernetta Gobeyn, Agnes Styers, Sharon VanderHaar, plus many more dear friends.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola Rd., Frankenmuth, MI. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate with burial in Blessed Trinity Cemetery. Judy’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at church on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. There will be a prayer service on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Blessed Trinity Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Hospital.
