COMPTON, Gary Joseph - Age 69, of Fenton, died August 13, 2019. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 6481 Faussett Rd., Howell. Cremation will follow. Burial will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM until the time of Mass Saturday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties.
Gary was born February 22, 1950 in Flint, the son of Bernard and Gloria (Walsh) Compton. He graduated from Flint St. Matthews in 1968. Gary went on to Ferris State University receiving his bachelors degree in biology. Gary was united in marriage to Connie Martin on May 26, 1984 in Flint. He worked in respiratory therapy for Flint hospitals and he was a pharmaceutical sales rep for many years. Gary was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and volunteered for the Old News Boys. He was known for his enthusiasm for automobiles, appreciation for a wide variety of music and love of lake living. His greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Connie; son, Steven Compton; six siblings, Teresa (Al) Hanak, James (Sheri) Compton, Robert (Karlie) Compton, Diane (Curt) Hrabe, Janice (Robert) Lisowski, John Compton; mother-in-law, Fran Martin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Hopper, Larry (Tracy) Martin, David (Leesa) Martin, Berry Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Robert Martin; mother-in-law, Carol Martin; and brother-in-law, Raymond Hopper.
