NELSON, Norman Arnold – Of Traverse City, Michigan, age 79, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 in Traverse City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, Pastor Tim Manzer, of New Hope Community Church officiating. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint 48507. Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Hope Community Church in Traverse City, MI. Norman was born in Flint, Michigan on November 21, 1931 to parents, Arnold and Helen Nelson. He was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School and Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Army in the CIC. He was a member of Mariner Sands Chapel in Stuart, Florida, where he resided in the winter months. He lived in Traverse City during the summers and attended New Hope Community Church. He was President/Owner of Grand Blanc Cement Products and was a previous Chairman of the board of the National Concrete Masonary Association.
Norm was also a long-time member and past President of Grand Blanc Rotary Club. Norman loved to travel the world, play golf and was an avid reader. His life’s work was devoted to family and helping others.
Since retiring to Traverse City in 1998, nothing gave Norm more pleasure than relaxing with and enjoying family and friends on the bay. He was dearly loved and will be missed by his family, countless friends, and business associates. Norm is survived by wife, Carol;
daughters, Laura and husband Spence Wolfe, Lisa and husband Michael Daenzer, Kelly and husband Chris Bickley; sons, David and wife Jodi Hicks and Michael Hicks; eight grandsons, Alan and Erik Daenzer, Chris Hale, Joseph Hicks, Jordan Jennings, Connor and Trevor Hicks and Christopher Bickley.
