David was born in Flint, MI on October 28, 1938, son of the late Paul and Genevieve Karr. He married his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara K. Collins, on October 10, 1964. He attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and graduated from Detroit College of Law in 1962. He began practicing law in Grand Rapids before returning to Davison in 1966 to practice with his father, Paul H. Karr. His son, Matthew D. Karr, joined the firm in 1995 and the two of them worked together until the time of his death. David was a dedicated and hardworking attorney who loved his profession and helping others.
David served in the United States Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1968. He was extremely active in the community and was a member of the Davison Kiwanis Club for close to 50 years where he formed many long lasting friendships. He served as Kiwanis President twice, organized Kiwanis teams for the Big Brother/Big Sister Bowling Fundraiser for over twenty years, and received the prestigious Hixon Award as recognition of his commitment and generosity in helping others. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Genesee County Bar Association, Davison Township DDA, Davison Chamber of Commerce, Davison Community Education Foundation, and formerly served on the Board of Directors of Davison State Bank.
David was an avid U of M fan, especially the basketball program. He was a season ticket holder for over forty years and travelled to Hawaii and Alaska with the team. He was a near scratch golfer in his younger years, had four holes-in-one, and played St. Andrews with his father after his law school graduation. He was a charter member of the Davison Country Club and enjoyed golfing with his group of friends.
His greatest achievement was being an amazing and wonderful husband, father, grandfather (Papa) and great-grandfather. He was an inspiration to so many people and showed kindness and compassion to everyone he met. He had a gentle strength that lifted up those around him. He was happiest when around his family and delighted in everything his children and grandchildren did and attended with pride all of their activities.
David leaves behind to cherish so many wonderful memories, his wife, Barbara; his adoring children, Regan Allison (Mike), Matthew David (Denise), Erika Elizabeth (Chris); his beloved and adored grandchildren, Ian and Aaron Guevara, Landyn and Chandler McIntosh, Jake Michel, Madeline and Evan Karr, his great-grandchild, Preston David Guevara; his dedicated secretary of 30 years, Barbara A. Morin; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Genevieve Karr; siblings, Dr. Paul Karr, Sr., Gloria Fauth, and Jennifer Pinney; nephews, Geoffrey Fauth and Joseph Karr.
A very special thank you to his beloved nephew, Dr. Paul Karr, Jr., who was beside our family night and day for the past nine months and also to the caring staff of Reverence Home Health & Hospice for their excellent care and support during this difficult time.
