JEKEL, Carol Diane (Hunault) - Age 63 of Flushing, died at Avalon Hospice, after a brave and inspirational battle with brain cancer, with her beloved family by her side. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave, Flint with Fr. Phillip Schmitter celebrant. Visitation will be held 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM Monday, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek; and 10:00 AM until the time of mass Tuesday, at the church.
Carol was born October 9, 1948 at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, the daughter of Louise (Sayad) Hunault and Clarence Hunault. Carol was the oldest of two children. Carol married Donald Jekel on August 23, 1969. After high school, Carol was employed at Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing for ten years. She then obtained her teaching degree and Master's Degree. She taught at Hamady, Davison, and Flushing High Schools from 1986-2010. As a teacher, Carol was most noted for an annual Mock Interview Program, taking the students on several yearly field trips, and her many guest speakers in her classroom. In retirement, Carol enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren and visiting with friends.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: husband, Donald of Flushing; daughter, Michelle of Flushing; daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, Stacy, Andy, Olivia and Madelynn Galbreath of Virginia Beach, VA; mother, Louise Hunault of Flint Township; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Theresa Hunault; sister-in-law and husband, Barbara and Leon Irvine; sister-in-law, Mary Nolff; brother-in-law, Rick Jekel; several nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her twin daughters, Cindy and Sandy; father, Clarence; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Edward Jekel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carol Jekel Memorial Fund which will be used to continue Carol's spirit. Online condolences may be posted on the obituary website of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com |
