Bland, Janet Ruth (Lower) of Flushing, age 77, passed away peacefully at home comforted by her family and McLaren Hospice staff. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Dyslexia Institute (Flint Rotary Center) or McLaren Hospice.
Janet was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 1, 1938, the daughter of Kenneth and Cecilia (Rigling) Lower. They moved to Flint in 1951. Janet graduated from St. John Vianney in 1956 and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1963, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She married Gordon Bland on June 27, 1959, at St. John Vianney in Flint. Janet loved spending her time attending all of her children's and grandchildren's academic and sporting events throughout Michigan and Ohio. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing tennis and coffee chats with her friends in the neighborhood. Janet also took great pride and joy in her work as a tutor for the Michigan Dyslexia Center (Flint Rotary Center). She was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Gordon; three children, Dave and wife Julie Bland, Mike and wife Barb Bland, Karen and husband Ed Blair; eight grandchildren, Michael, Amy (Nick) Lorenz, Kevin, Katherine, Megan (Franco) Fabiili, Kristen, Dan (Aubreigh), and Alex. |
