Gaylia’s sunrise was June 18, 1931 and her sunset was February 17, 2015. She left this world to rejoin the loving arms of her departed husband and love of her life, Hubert.
Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Leslie Toldo officiating.
Burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Gaylia came into this world in Lanton, Missouri, the only child of the late Eulis and Minnie Kenslow. She grew up in a world struggling in the throes of the Great Depression. Her family traveled from Missouri to Michigan to California and back to Missouri looking for work. Some of the toughest parts of her life, were also the most memorable as they traveled the country as fruit tramps. They eventually landed back in Missouri where she graduated from West Plains High School in 1948.
On New Year’s Eve, at the age of fifteen she met the love of her life, Hubert “Doggy” Stogsdill. They traveled to Flint and were married in 1950. They put their roots into this northern community and raised a family here.
Gaylia’s skills took her to many places in Flint. She worked at the Flint Board of Education, Lewis and Knoff Attorneys, General Motors Ternstedts Plant, and WTAC Radio before electing in 1957 to take on the role of full time mother.
Gaylia was a true people person, always ready to help out and do the right thing. Her interests included tutoring students, writing poetry, antiquing, reading, and sharing her opinion.
She lived her life for those she loved and believed that family is what life was all about. She is survived by; Daughter Kirstie (Roy) Richard of Burton. Granddaughters: Amy (Nate) Cottrill and Becky Sanders and Great Granddaughters Caitlin, Alayna, and Kendall, all of Davison.
