James Oliver “Jim” Cousins of Clio, formerly of Davison, age 89, died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11:00 am at SS Charles & Helena Catholic Church, 230 E. Vienna St., Clio. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin, will be the celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held at Richfield Union Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 3 – 7 pm at Hansen Funeral Home in Davison. Jim will lie in state at the church from 10 am Friday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Jim’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on June 29, 1929, the son of the late Oliver & Marguerite (Benz) Cousins and has resided in the area his entire life. He was joined in marriage to Onalee Lucus in 1950 and she preceded him in death in May 1992. Jim was joined in marriage to Arlene Crow in April 1996. Answering the call of his country, Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War. Jim coached basketball for many years and was an avid bowler. Jim loved music and sang with the Flint Arrowhead Barbershop Chorus for many years. He was a former member of St. John Catholic Church in Davison and was a member of SS Charles & Helena Catholic Church in Clio. Jim was employed by General Motors AC Division for thirty years, retiring in 1990. He later worked for Manheim Auto Auction as a driver for many years.
Surviving is wife Arlene, children; Kathy (Jerry) Kennedy, Jane (Bill) Canterbury, Patty (Rob Moquin) Cousins, James (Cheryl) Cousins II, Stephen (Terry) Cousins, Douglas (Stephania) Cousins, JoEllen (James) Atkinson, Theresa (Robin Torrant) Bastedo, and Mark Bastedo. He also leaves his sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by brother Lloyd Cousins.
