DOWELL, Shirley L. – Of Burton, age 89, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Visitation 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, and Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m., Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating.
Inurnment of cremations will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 11, 1926, the daughter of the late William and Leona (Morrow) Sova and was a resident of Detroit, Cheboygan and Burton.
On July 8, 1952 she married Raymond Dowell.
She was a life member of the Ladies VFW Post #822 and the Eagles.
Shirley enjoyed road trips and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Dowell was a waitress at the Cheboygan Restaurant.
Surviving are children, Bill Dowell and Debbie Rutherford,
Charmaine White and George Stheiner,
Laurie Gunsell and Sandra Dowell;
grandchildren, Shannon, Jason, John, Chris, Nancy, Billy, Aaron, Cassie, Mathew and Jennifer;
many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and sibling, Donna Friday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Skip; son-in-law, Matt Gunsell; sisters, Norma, Rietta and Violet.
Rejoice Shirley and Ray’s life, they loved each other a bushel and a peck.
