GRIGGS, Bernard Leo, Jr., “Pete” of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Grand Blanc, age 83, died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Johnson Ferry Senior Living in Marietta, GA.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 609 East Fifth Avenue, Flint, Father Thomas Firestone officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fischer Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Visitation 4-8pm Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 10am Saturday at church until the time of the Mass.
Pete was born in Flint, Michigan on March 1, 1936, the son of the late Bernard and Marjorie (Oberlin) Griggs.
On October 15th 1976, he married Peggy Loftin at St. Leo's in Flint.
Pete proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of St. Michael's and Holy Family Catholic Church, and volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity. Other important accomplishments included launching a successful Land Surveying / Civil Engineering firm, Lantz-Griggs, which he later merged with SSOE, Inc; and serving on the board for the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors.
He was known for his riddles, tireless ancestral research and enthusiasm for great hockey games.
Surviving are children, David, Steven (Katy), Peter (Terri) Griggs; Jennifer Bullen; Mark (Sugako), Bryan and Garret Griggs;
14 grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Linda) Griggs; and sister, Marianna (Jim) Beaubien. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Griggs, in 2015 and infant son, James.
