Mildred “Millie” Rose Mentus
Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the age of 88.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at St. Paul Catholic Church with a luncheon to follow. Fr. Michael O’Brien will be officiating. Millie’s final resting place will be at Maple River Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Friday from 2pm to 8pm with a scripture service being held at 7pm.
Millie was born September 28, 1936 in Owosso, the daughter of Basil and Ida (Coleman) Flynn.
She graduated from Corunna High School in the graduating class of 1954. Shortly after graduation Millie attended Central Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She then furthered her education at Michigan State University.
Millie was an elementary teacher at Corunna Public Schools for over 34 ½ years before retiring to spend time with her grandkids. She touched the lives of hundreds of students. Even years after retirement, former students would approach her to express their gratitude and her impact on their lives.
Millie was a true woman of faith. Her smile was contagious and her prayers were powerful. Millie and her husband Frank devoted their time at St. Paul Catholic Church. Millie was a past member of Respite Volunteers, Corunna Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, RCIA, and CCD Teacher. She was an active member of St. Therese Guild, Potpourri Herb Guild, Memorial Health Care Auxiliary, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and Hospitality Ministry at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Millie enjoyed being outdoors, especially in her flower gardens. She loved playing cards, dice, board games, and enjoyed reading. She would watch game shows every evening and listen to Tiger baseball games. She was very creative and would sew, crochet, and make greeting cards with tatted flowers. She played piano and loved listening to music. She loved challenging herself with sudoku’s and puzzles. Millie and her husband Frank devised a delicious, healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe that all the grandchildren loved. She was very active in her role as grandma. Millie was always there for every sporting event, dance recital, and band concert.
She met her forever sweetheart, Frank Mentus, polka dancing at Edgewood Gardens. They got married at St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso on October 1, 1966. They have spent over 58 loving years together.
Millie is survived by her husband, Frank Mentus; children, Tim (Shannon) Mentus and Ann (Jim) Buffa; grandchildren, Meggan (Jake) DeBruler, Samantha (Jordan) Ransom, and Nathan (Ashlyn) Mentus, Sarah (Jarod) Glawe, and Jessica (Teron) Fairchild; great grandchildren, Levi and Ellie DeBruler; sisters, Marie Taylor, Pat Petrauskus, Janet (Ed) Franks, and Debra (Gary) Harvey; along with many other loving family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Basil and Ida Flynn; father and mother-in-law Francis and Victoria Mentus; brother-in-laws Dr. Raymond Patrauskus, Gerald Taylor, and Robert Mentus.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Catholic Church and School.
