John Keith Westenbarger, age 86, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. John was born on June 7, 1929 in Lapeer, MI to parents Russel and Emma (Weidenhammer) Westenbarger. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1947 and went on to graduate from Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago with a degree in engineering. He proudly served in the United States Army and drove a tank during the Korean War. On September 18, 1954 he married the love of his life, Betty Ann McFarlane. He later retired from Sys-T-Mation Corporation. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. John enjoyed woodworking and working on stained-glass projects. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Westenbarger; children: William Westenbarger, Gail Marie Ricketts, and Ruth (Michael) Hall of Traverse City; grandchildren: Jaime (Hillary) Westenbarger, Anthony (Joanna) Westenbarger, Gregory (Ashley) Westenbarger, Elizabeth (Branson Skinner) Ricketts, and Erica Ricketts; eight great grandchildren; nephews: James (Joyce) Westenbarger, Robert (Dede) Westenbarger, Ron (Pat) Melvin; nieces: Norma (Fred) VanFleet, Barbara (Rick) Macko; a very dear person to our family, Cheryl Blank; his son’s good friend, Linda Roberts and her sons: Ryan and Kevin. He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Gordon (Ruby) Westenbarger; sister, Joyce (Sam) Melvin. A funeral service will take place at 11am on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian Church (1084 N. Irish Rd., Davison). Pastor Hal Polk officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 2-8pm at Brown Funeral Home (1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc), and again on Friday at church, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am. As were his wishes, cremation will take place following the service and inurnment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Presbyterian Church or Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council. |
