SIMMONDS, Douglas Donald – of Millington, MI, age 68, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Genesys Health Park. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Monday, August 28, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. Inurnment, with Military Honors, in Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 10-11 AM Monday, August 28, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home.
Doug was born in Flint, MI on April 30, 1949, son of the late Irving H. Simmonds and Dolly (Bird) Simmonds-Light. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. Doug retired from General Motors in 1999 after 32 years of service. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, including cutting wood for the fireplace, mowing the lawn and he was extremely proud of his garden. Doug was an avid sports fan especially Michigan State Spartans and the Detroit Tigers. He loved his children and was very proud of their accomplishments. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Doug is survived by his wife of 14 years, Ginger; 3 children, Christopher (Kathi) Simmonds, Chad (Theresa) Simmonds and Angela (Paul) Rumph; 6 grandchildren; brother, David (Sue) Simmonds; sister, Diane (Gary) Slater; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel (Norene) Simmonds.
