MARTIN, Edgar “Jack” – of Davison, MI, age 88, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Entombment immediately following the Mass in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Scripture Service will be held 5 PM Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Jack’s memory.
Jack was born in Lansing, MI on October 12, 1931, son of the late Edgar and Esther (Drumm) Martin. He married Judith Larrabee on June 25, 1966 and she preceded him in death on December 9, 2006. Jack earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Olivet College in 1957. He then earned a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1974. For 28 years, Jack was the head of the Art Department at Kearsley High School where he was also the Varsity Golf Coach. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he belonged to the Befriender Ministry and the Resurrection Choir. Jack also volunteered at the North End Soup Kitchen. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Jack is survived by 2 daughters, Heather (Steve) Keller and Stacy (Mark) Manuszak; 4 grandchildren, Justin, Kirsten, Mason and Morgan; sister, Suzanne Kovacs; “Little Brother”, David Dutcher; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Esther Martin; his wife, Judith Martin; 2 sisters, Peggy Yarlott and Mary Earl.
