HOWARD, Richard J., Sr. – Of Canton, formerly of Clio, age 80, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Angela Hospice in Livonia.
Richard was born in Pinnebog, Michigan on February 24, 1932. He grew up in Caseville and lived most of his life in Flint.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from July 18, 1952 until June 26, 1954 and was discharged as a Corporal.
On September 15, 1956 Richard married Hallie Naomi Kirk, and together they celebrated 51 years.
He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God.
Mr. Howard was employed by GM for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Surviving are children, Richard J. Howard, Jr. (Lisa Brayan),
Rodney and wife Mary and
Rhonda Albarkat;
step-children, Michael Wall,
Steve and wife Susie Wall,
Michaella Messer and
Virginia Adams;
13 grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Clayton and wife Joann, Charles and wife Gretchen, Dale, Gary and wife Maxine;
four sisters, Bertha and husband Steve Gillingham,
Janice and Robert Martinez,
Joyce Sommerfeld,
Sherry and Alan Kumas;
sister-in-law, Emma Howard;
many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Hallie; parents, Burt and Edith; brother, Robert Howard; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Phil Hunt and sister-in-law, Lorraine Howard.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Trinity Assembly of God Church, 4363 West Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris, Reverend Bill Christensen officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Visitation 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mr. Howard will be at the church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service.
