Eavy, Venepha May of Flushing, age 94, died Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Fostrian Court. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Flushing United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeanne Wisenbaugh will officiate. Cremation will follow services. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing United Methodist Church.

Venepha was born in Flushing, Michigan on July 6, 1921, the daughter of Colamer and Florence (Burns) Plass. She married Lyle O. Eavy in Flushing, on May 18, 1945. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1993. Venepha attended Western Michigan University and received a Bachelors of Science in Education. Serving as a Den Mother for 18 years, “Ve” was one of the first recipients of the Silver Fawn Award from the Tall Pine Council of Boy Scouts of America. She spent the next 13 years teaching second grade for Flushing Community Schools, beginning at Maple School, a one–room schoolhouse, then at Elms Elementary, retiring in 1982. Venepha was very active in the Flushing United Methodist Church her entire life, supporting the youth, missions, and especially the Ugly Quilts, which makes blankets for the homeless.

Venepha is survived by her children, A. Lee (Jeannie), Lyle “Rusty” (Judy), David (Sue), Paul (Cynthia), Eugene (Nancy), Margaret (Jonathan) Northrup; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandsons; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; siblings Ralph, Wilmer, Margaret Odle; and daughter-in-law, Janet.
