FIRCHAU, Joyce G. - Of Flushing, age 92, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 1p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 402 South Ballenger Highway, Flint, Pastor Steven R. Maske officiating.
Burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross. Visitation 12-3p.m. and 5-8p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Mrs. Firchau will be at the church 12noon Friday until the time of the service. Joyce was born in Clermont, Queensland, Australia on May 12, 1919. She met her husband, Carl, in 1942 when he was with the Flying Tigers in Australia. They were married in Brisbane in January, 1944. Joyce joined him in Saginaw in 1945, where they lived until moving to Flint in 1970. She had been a Red Cross volunteer for 30 years, first at F.O.H. and then at Genesys. Joyce enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and traveling. She had three children, Richard and wife Jean of Hawaii, Ron and wife Kathy of Flushing and Debi of Indianapolis. Also surviving are granddaughter, Rachel Jean Firchau of Hawaii; sisters, Beryl Ricketts, who is 102, and Dulce Hodgson who is 99 years old of Australia.
