ALLEN, Darrell Lee- of St. Helen, formerly Clio, age 80, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at University Hospital, Ann Arbor. Visitation will be at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 1-3 PM with funeral services immediately following at 3 PM. Cremation will follow. Contributions may be made to the family.
Darrell was born May 10, 1932 in Flint, the son of Angela N. Willard and Harry Darrell Allen. While serving his country as a naval enlistee aboard the USS Monson DD 798 from 1950-1954, he met and married his loving wife of 58 years, Joan (Batchelder) Allen. Darrell retired from Chevy Parts and Pieces and moved to St. Helen where he opened his own business, “Santa’s Workshop”. He was an excellent craftsman and made not only toys, but many beautiful pieces of heirloom quality furniture. Darrell loved his family foremost. He also enjoyed a good day of fishing, a good joke and a puff on his pipe. He liked to drive to Amish communities for his eggs, to Pinconning for Walleye suppers, taking long walks and Halo Burger.
Darrell is survived by: his son, Bret Allen; and daughter, Valerie (David) Jones, all of Clio; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Tommy, Stacy, Steven and Sabrina; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert; and sister, Pamela.
