ROHRER, George M. "Max" - Of Linden, age 89 years old passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating.
The family will welcome visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Men’s Swim & Dive Team, University of Michigan, Athletic Dept., 1000 S State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, in Max’s memory.
Max was born on April 6, 1923 in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1941.
He served his country as a bombardier in World War II.
M. Rohrer retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he finished his degree at the University of Michigan and taught school in the Flint and Carman districts for over 40 years.
He loved teaching, and could remember most all of his students, keeping in touch with them all of his life.
Through his life he enjoyed all sports; football, softball, a lifelong Detroit Tiger enthusiast. He loved U of M football and was a devoted fan of the Michigan Swim Team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Gertrude Rohrer and his wife, Johnny Rohrer.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers, Keith (Nina) Rohrer and Hugh (Judy) Rohrer;
sister, Elaine McCalla;
many loving nieces and nephews;
children, Bill (Sherry) Cornish, Anne (John) Truchan, and Susan (Jim) Orosz;
grandchildren, Wendy Zaggy, Dave (Tracy) Truchan, Tom Orosz, Jennifer (Paul) Tucholski, Shelly Cornish and Renee (Ryan) Leach;
9 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
