SMELSER, Teresa Marie – of Montrose, age 69, died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Medilodge of Montrose. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Montrose Family Worship Center, 9453 Vienna Road, Montrose, Michigan, Pastor Bob Lemming officiating. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 PM until time of service at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Charity of Choice.
Teresa was born January 10, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter and Patricia (Walsh) Dumas. She grew up in Clio, Michigan and attended Clio High School. On May 25, 1968 she married Ronnie Smelser in Flint, Michigan.
Teresa was a federally and state licensed Bird Rehabilitator, and was known as the “Bird Lady”. She was a passionate advocate for injured and neglected animals, and was an active and dedicated member of the rehabilitation community. Teresa used her compassion and expertise to mentor up and coming rehabilitators in obtaining their Rehabilitator’s licenses.
Teresa was a member of the Montrose Family Worship Center. She enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, and traveling to the UP with her husband. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross stiching, her pets, all wildlife, and of course, birds. However, her greatest joy in life was her family. Teresa took great pride in the family gatherings, famous for being full of fun, food and laughter, that she hosted on many occasions.
Surviving are: Husband, Ronnie; Children, Chesla (Amber) Smelser, Bob (Jessica) Smelser; Grandchildren, Cody Smelser, Jacob Smelser; Siblings, Clare “Cricket” (Art) Aldrich, Irene King, Ola (Roy) Lovely; Brother in law, Leonard Kusky; and several nieces and nephews.
