APPLING, Ruth - Age 94, died November 23, 2017. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Monday and from 10 AM until the time of service Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to Linden Elementary School or the Alzheimer's Association. Ruth was born June 21, 1923 in Novi Twp., the daughter of Rollin and Edith (Pittenger) Porter. She was married to John Arthur Appling on September 7, 1946; he preceded her in death on May 16, 2008. Ruth graduated from Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Masters Degree. She taught Fourth Grade at Linden and Central Elementary Schools. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fenton. Surviving are: daughter, Toni (Marty "Bud") Jones; grandchildren, Jeremy (Avi) Jones, Benjamin (Jenny) Jones, Rebecca (Victor) Illian; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Larry (Kendra) Porter; nieces, Linda (John) Holman, Lydia (Joe) Duch, Julaine Appling, Sue Appling; great-niece, Renee Porter; great-nephew, Travis Micks; many friends. Ruth was also preceded in death by her sister, Gayla Porter, brother, Joe Porter and nephew, John "Jack" Appling. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com |
