Rupert A Bentley, Jr.
Age 90 of Owosso, formerly of Whittemore, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Memorial Healthcare.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Grace Bible Church with Rev. Jerry Walden officiating. Burial will take place Thursday at 11:30 am at Esmond-Evergreen Cemetery, Hale, MI. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-8 pm and Wednesday at the church from 11am until the time of the service.
Rupert was born August 19, 1924 in RenoTownship, Iosco County to the late Margaret (Sibley) and Rupert A. Bentley Sr.
He graduated from Burleigh Township High School (currently Whittemore-Prescott High School) in 1943 as class valedictorian. On June 18, 1955 he married Joy Arline Bills. After 45 years of marriage, she predeceased him October 19, 2000.
Rupert had retired from Grumman Aerospace as an electronics instructor, but he considered his role as a loving husband and father to be much more important. He will be remembered for his love for his Savior and devotion to his family. Other interests included model railroading, amateur radio and woodworking.
Rupert will be missed by his daughters Margaret Bentley and Elaine (Ron) Zimmerman both of Owosso and granddaughters Sarah (Ryan) Nevins of St. Johns and Rachel Zimmerman of Owosso. He is also survived by his brother John (Nancy) Bentley of Apopka, Florida, sister Ida (Ron) Sherrod of Hale and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister Sarah Annie Sullivan, brothers-in-law Charles Sullivan and Robert Moon, and also two sisters-in-law and their husbands Louise (Porter) Stedman and Anna (Elden) Bannister.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Bible Church of Owosso or Whittemore Baptist Church of Whittemore, Michigan.
