ULANSKI, Elva Maxine (Gunsell-Kostelnick) - of Davison, age 89 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 6, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Monday, October 10, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Rev. Fr. Robert C. Bacik celebrant. Interment 10 AM Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Visitation will be 11 AM to 8 PM Sunday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. A Rosary will be prayed at 5 PM Sunday followed by a Scripture Service. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Eastside Senior Citizens Association, Melody Care Homes or St. John’s Catholic Church.
Elva was born on August 11, 1927 in Flint Michigan the daughter of Joseph Kostelnick and Verneta Gunsell. She was united in marriage seventy years ago to Arthur Ulanski on September 21, 1946 at All Saints Catholic Church in Flint, Michigan. Together they had seven children, James (Joann), Debra (Dennis) Gilbert, Marycatherine (Chester) Thompson, Marty (Nancy), Tamara (David) Brunett, Rebecca (Mike) Nuckolls, and Julie (Tom) Stiglich. She leaves 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren to cherish her memory. Elva also leaves family members including her cherished and devoted cousin Rosalie (Fred) Turkovics, sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Zawislak, Marie Ulanski, and Louise Kostelnick, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Verneta Gunsell-Hutzkal, father Joseph Kostelnick, brother Clement Kostelnick, and grandson Zachary Hershberger.
Elva attended Kearsley Community Schools, and Baker Business College. She worked for General Motors at Buick Motor Division and then at A.C. Spark Plug Division for 45 years retiring in 1992. Elva enjoyed volunteering with her husband, Arthur at Durant Turri Mott giving Arthur’s handmade wooden toys to children while dressed as Mrs. Claus. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Eastside Senior Citizens Center and past member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Polish Legion of American Veterans Auxiliary. The family would like to thank Carolyn Gray for her love and devotion as a caregiver, as well as Larry and Kim Noyce, owners of Melody Care Homes and their incredible and loving staff: Denise, Amanda, Jeri, Anna, and Evelyn for providing excellent care while maintaining our mother’s dignity.
