SHAFT, Claire Lucille – Of Burton, age 94, died Monday, February 24, 2020.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Father Tom Firestone officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hurley Foundation.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and visitation 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Claire was born in Pontiac, Michigan on April 23, 1925, the daughter of the late Lewis and Anna (O’Neil) Gardner.
She married Donald Shaft on November 20, 1954 in Flint and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2003.
She volunteered as an auxiliary member at Hurley Medical Center in the surgical waiting room for 39 years.
Claire loved spending time with family, especially on Christmas.
She was quick to laugh, often sharing mischievous childhood memories through fits of laughter. Her family takes comfort knowing her gentle, jolly soul is rejoicing with those who welcomed her in Heaven.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" and husband Paul Bonner of Grand Blanc and Tracy Shaft of Flint;
2 granddaughters, Elizabeth (Cameron) Carr and Lauren Bonner of Grand Blanc;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; sisters, Alice Garrow and Bea Pearce; brother, Paul Gardner.
