CANTRELL, Jack Leroy – of Clio, age 84, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019 at his home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2019 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Michigan. Pastor Ed Emmerling officiating. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network.
Jack was born September 3, 1935 in Flat Gap, Kentucky to the late Ossie and Gracie (Stapleton) Cantrell. He grew up in Kentucky and moved to Flint, Michigan in 1945. Jack graduated from Flint Central High School with the class of 1955. He has resided in Thetford Township since 1960. On November 1, 1958 he married Katherine Rood in Vassar, Michigan. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Jack worked for Hamady Brothers Grocery Store as a Maintenance Supervisor since 1952. After his retirement he worked for Kessel Grocery Store for several years as a Maintenance Supervisor. Jack enjoyed taking care of his honey bees, antique collecting, steelhead fishing, and gardening. He was an avid skeet and trap shooter for years. However, his greatest joy in life was his family and all his grandchildren. The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the McLaren ER staff, nurses in the Acute Care unit and the Hospice nurses at McLaren Healthcare. They would also like to say “Thank You” to Jenny, Mary, Cassie, Scott, Renee and Maureen for all their help with Jack’s care.
Surviving are: Wife, Katherine; Children, Cindy (Brian) O’Rourke, Jim (Stephanie) Cantrell; Grandchildren, Mike (Jill) Williams, Amy Williams, Colt Cantrell and partner Jessica Mae Clark, Lindsay (Rob) Samuels, Ashley (Joel) Steiner, Cody Brown, Brandon Hamilton, Shelby Hamilton; Great Grandchildren, Kellen Williams, Jack Williams, Hadley Williams, Brody Williams, Olivia Samuels, Molly Steiner, Calvin Steiner, Lucy Steiner; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Great Granddaughter, Edie Grace Williams; Siblings, Wayne Cantrell, Bond Cantrell, Bob Cantrell, Wilma Collins, Edith Estep.
