John S. Stout of Flushing, age 92, died Friday, November 15, 2013. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, 746 S. Saginaw Street, Flint. Dr. John Musgrave will officiate. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church in the Memorial Parlor from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mr. Stout was born in New London, Indiana on January 4, 1921, the son of John M. and Mary L. (Somerville) Stout. He married Dorothy J. Backert on July 26, 1941 and celebrated 72 years of marriage. He graduated from Purdue University in 1941 and worked for Buick Motor Division in Flint for most of his career, retiring as Plant Manager in 1979. After retirement, he was a volunteer expert for IESC (International Executive Service Corps) and worked as an advisor for many businesses in developing countries throughout the world. Mr. Stout was on the Board of Directors of Flint Osteopathic Hospital, eventually becoming its President and was instrumental in the merger of FOH and St. Joseph Health Systems into Genesys. He served as Chairman of the Board of Genesys Regional Medical Center until his retirement in 2001. He served on the Board of Directors for Genesys-Hurley Cancer Institute from 2002 until 2007. Mr. Stout was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder for almost 60 years, teaching the Bishop Class for more than 30 years and singing in the choir for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, Elizabeth (Betsy) and husband Dr. Robert Weaver of Lawrence, KS, J. Stephen and wife Jayna of Flushing, Dr. David M. and wife Eileen of Pittstown, NJ; six granddaughters; seven great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louie Blanche Greenlee and brother, Morris S. Stout. |
