DUNBAR, William “Bill” Charles – of Davison, age 83, passed away January 16, 2015 at Regency at Grand Blanc. A Funeral Service will be held 3 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Jason Crum officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be from 12 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to McLaren Hospice.
Our dad was born in Port Huron, MI on March 4, 1931 to the late Kenneth and Gertrude (Betts) Dunbar. He married Jean Evelyn Knight on June 28, 1952 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Bill retired from GM Flint Metal Center after 38 years. He was a member of UAW Local #659. He loved hunting, nature and animals. Bill dedicated his life as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Family and friends will remember Bill as a strong and hard-working man who always had words of wisdom, advice, generosity and his illustration of opting to see the absolute best in people.
William is survived by his children, Michael Dunbar, Shelley Dunbar, Daniel (Laurie) Dunbar and Rhonda Dunbar; grandchildren, Rachel Teeter-Longendyke, Scott (Traci Cook) Longendyke, Steven Mathis, Jennifer Dunbar, Jeffrey Dunbar, Melissa Dunbar-Duplanty, Nicholas Dunbar, Christopher (Amanda) Carlson and Valerie (Nick) Runyan; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Ella, Alex, Tyler, Logan, Kylie, Kyla, Morgan, Andrew, Maxwell and Cain; sisters, Elaine Houghton and Linda (Don) Howard; brothers, Jack (Britt) Cole, Don (Susan) Cole and Frank Cole. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jean; father, Kenneth Dunbar; step-father, Wally Cole; father and mother-in-law, Percy and Isabella Knight. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Regency at Grand Blanc for their compassionate care of their dad. He will be missed.
