Mookie was born April 19, 1975 in Detroit, MI to Karen Clemons. He graduated from Carman-Ainsworth High School in 1993 where he cherished playing Cavalier Football and singing in the esteemed Carman-Ainsworth Chorale. Mookie spent many years working as Security throughout Genesee County, but is often remembered for his role as night security at Starlite Coney Island in Burton.
Mookie had his 1st child, Domonique, at the young age of 17. He was determined to bring this child into the world despite not being prepared at the time. All would now agree that this was truly meant to be. Mookie went on to have Jasmin, Ashly, Noai, and Rylee. He found great pride in all of his children and later his grandchildren. He loved to tell of their accomplishments. Mookie also enjoyed having a significant role as a father-figure to Kenny, Kaleb, and Karsen.
Mookie was the ultimate football fan, with complete allegiance to his Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. He could always be heard on game days cheering on his team and yelling at the refs. But most of all Mookie was known for his heart, his smile, his hugs, and his friendship as he was a “big brother,” protector, and confidante to so many. A secret told to him was safe forever. It could be said that Mookie never met a person that did not become his friend and he had the special ability to make each friend feel like his best friend.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Domonique Clemons, Jasmin Axtell, Ashly (Josh) McManus, Noai Clemons, and Rylee Clemons; his grandchildren: Neveah McManus, Elijah McManus, Milo Clemons, and Indy Clemons; his bonus kids: Kenneth, Kaleb, and Karsen Wilcox; best friend and caregiver: Amy Anderson; bonus parents: Mike and Debbie Sorrell, aunt Lynn Clemons, uncles Michael and Billy Clemons; special friends that became family: Allen (Randi) Richter, Michelle (Jeff) Burden Miller, Matt Brown, Shelly, Monica and Leah Hampton as well as a host of other family and friends he held so dear.
Mookie was preceded in death by his mother Karen (Sylvester) Willis, his grandmother Shirley Gadson, and his very special aunt April Ausby.
A special thanks to Burton DaVita Dialysis, MediLodge of Montrose, and McLaren Hospice for the care and kindness they gave to Mookie throughout his health journey.
Mookie has asked that he be remembered with smiles, the jokes he shared, the nicknames he gave everyone, and all the good times. We know that he is no longer in pain and that he is smiling down on each of us.
