SUMMERFIELD, Robert Martin - Of Fremont, MI, age 91, passed away peacefully to his eternal home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
Funeral service will be held 10am Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Jack Dowden officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Visitation 2-4pm and 6-8pm Friday and 9am Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Robert was born in Flint, Michigan on March 7, 1928, the son of the late William and Mildred (White) Summerfield. On June 2, 1951, he married Barbara Davis and she preceded him in death on July 15, 1995. On January 5, 2002, he married Mary Lou Ijames and she preceded him in death on November 28, 2011. Robert worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years. He served the Lord faithfully throughout his life with a gentle, loving spirit.
Surviving are children, Thomas (Louanne), Steve (Patti), Susan (Dale) Lumsden, Andrew (Laura), and Robert (Kristie);
18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren;
He is also survived by Mary’s children, Gary (Terri) Ijames, Michael Ijames, William (Jessica) Ijames and Lori Golden (Jimmy Stubbs) and many other grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters, William, Virginia, Jack, Catherine, Donald, Richard and Douglas.
He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to Community Kids, which is an inner city ministry in Grand Rapids where his son, Rob, is Executive Director.
