ROSSMAN, Philip "Phil" Dean Sr. - Age 80, of Gaines, died January 31, 2017. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday, February 4, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Friday and 10:30 AM until time of service at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will take place 7 PM at the funeral home followed by a Shriner's service at 7:30 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital or the American Legion. Philip was born in Flint on August 18, 1936, the son of Eleanor (Rossman) Messenger. He married Barbara McClatchey (Gray) on September 6, 1974 in Lancaster, OH. Mr. Rossman proudly served his country having served his nation in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1974. Phil retired from St. Joseph Hospital, Flint in 1996 with 20 years of service as a security supervisor and had worked at Genesys Hospital, Grand Blanc until 2008. Mr. Rossman was a life member of Swartz Creek VFW Post #3720 and Fenton VFW Post #3243. Phil was very active with the Linden Masonic Lodge #132, American Legion Swartz Creek Post # 294, Elf Khurafeh Shriners as Flip-O the clown, president of military patrol, and was past president of the Fenton Shrine club for the years of 2006 and 2009. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Carolyn (Don) Cummings, Vicki (Pat) Crum, Janice (John) Hanna, Dana (Martha) Gray, Philip Jr. and Sheri (Robert) Gilmore; 9 grandchildren, Shelly McManis, John Hanna II, Mary Sayre, John Gray, Brad Gray, Christy Reeves, Philip D. Rossman III, Robert and Dean Gilmore; 7 great grandchildren, Savannah, Elle, Hailey, Aiden, Caleb, Liam, Peyton. Phil is also survived by his sisters, Sharon (Joe) Moran, Brenda (Fred) Bell and brother Gary Messenger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Robert Messenger and brother, Dennis Messenger.
