BLACKBURN, Gladys Ruth - Age 88, of Linden, died June 12, 2017. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, June 16, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Thursday. Those desiring may make contributions to Deerfield Primitive Baptist Church. Gladys was born September 24, 1928 in Ira, VA. She was married to Chester Blackburn on August 1, 1946; he preceded her in death on December 29, 1998. Mrs. Blackburn graduated from U of M Flint in 1966; she then taught at Tomek-Eastern Elementary School until she retired in 1987. She was an active member of Primitive Baptist Church. She also volunteered at Genesys Hospital and Sloan Museum. Surviving are her children, Chester (Pamela) Blackburn, John (Julie) Blackburn, Steven (Deborah) Blackburn, Lesa Ann Blackburn Holth, Linda (Richard) Tinker, Diane (Joseph) Smotherman; brother, Joe (Clara) Dotson; sister, Pearl Jackson; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
