ALWARD, Robert Francis - Age 81, of Flushing, died Friday, August 30, 2019. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, September 6, 2019 at Ainsworth Baptist Church, 5114 Van Slyke Rd, Flint. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Christian Memorial Gardens West, 521 E. Hamlin Road, Rochester Hills. Pastor Brant Engel officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the Communication Access Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Robert was born June 18, 1938 in Flint, the son of Robert O. and Edna M. (Hutson) Alward. He was a 1956 graduate of the Michigan School for the Deaf. He married Christine Doutree Mofield September 21, 2013 in Flint Township. He had resided in Flushing for the past 6 years coming from Gaines. Robert retired from GM Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant after 41 years of service. He was a member of St.Paul Lutheran Church in Flint. He was also a member of the Flint Association of the Deaf and the Flint Association of the Deaf Senior Citizens.
Surviving are: his wife, Christine Mofield; step children, Jeff and wife Duana Mofield of Swartz Creek and Marie Mofield of Flint; grandchildren, Hunter, Drew, and Desiree; "daughter", Tracey and husband Todd Nelson of Portland; grandson, Bryan Smith of Lansing; and great grandchildren, Jason, Alison, and Isabell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ardena G. Alward; daughter, Brenda Smith; and sister, Jackie. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
