Anderson, Elmer L. “Andy” of Durand, Michigan and Englewood, Florida, age 78, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at home with his loving family at his side after a hard fought battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
Elmer was born in Lake Lelanau, Michigan on January 6, 1939, the son of Charles and Mary (Zeits) Anderson. He married Joyce Shelley in Flint, Michigan on November 3, 1962. Elmer proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked at General Motors and retired from AC Spark Plug after 30 years. Elmer attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand and St. Raphael in Englewood, Florida. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Skidway Lake. Elmer enjoyed playing pool with his Florida buddies, loved singing and always had a smile for everyone. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts and spending time in his tool shed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce; daughter, Michele and husband Butch Yurk; son, Michael and wife Janet Anderson; four grandchildren, Alaina (Joe) Jackson, Lhea (Greg) Mulligan, Breanna Yurk, Tanner (Hannah Bryant) Yurk; great-grandsons, Tucker Harrison, and Joseph Jackson V; brother, Charles; sister, Rose Ann; several nieces and nephews; and special Florida friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia and Charlotte; and brother, Philip.
