HODER, Dr. Richard James – Of West Bloomfield, formerly of Flint, age 86, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Henry Ford Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Avenue in Flint,
Father Anthony Strouse officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
Richard was born in Saginaw, Michigan on August 26, 1931, the son of the late John and Margaret (Barkac) Hoder.
On February 27, 1960 Richard married Audrey Allen.
Dr. Hoder was a Dentist in the Flint area for over 35 years.
He had a blackbelt in Judo.
Dr. Hoder was a former member of St. Pius X Catholic and the Lions Club.
He loved spending time with his family and spending time at his property in Northern Ontario.
He lived a good life and left this world a little better off than when he came into it.
Surviving are children, Kimberly and husband David Wisniewski,
Gregory and wife Joann Hoder,
Mary and husband John Mulvey,
Kathryn and husband Lewis Walterhouse II;
grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Matthew, Adam, Taylor, Zachary, Elizabeth, Lewis III and Kathryn;
one great-grandson, Isaac;
brothers, William and wife Kristine Hoder, Kenneth and wife Debbie Hoder;
sister, Jayne Lauchu;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, on November 10, 2007.
