TABOR, Marvin “Gene” – Of Flint, age 86, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, David A. Paher officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery with a military graveside service.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Marvin was born in Paragould, Arkansas on April 15, 1926, the son of John and Nellie Tabor. He lived in the Flint area most of his life.
He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II as an airplane engine mechanic. He was known by many as the cookie man.
He married Joyce Helmboldt on June 2, 1956 in Fenton.
Mr. Tabor was a member of the Swartz Creek Church of Christ.
Surviving are wife Joyce;
son, Daniel E. and wife Trudy of Flint;
four granddaughters, Pauline (Jay), Danielle (Jeremy), Lisa (Jerry) and Sara (Brett);
six great-grandchildren Cassidy, Jayden, Jack, Madysen, Morgan and Emma;
sister, Betty and husband Bob Day;
brother-in-law, Donald and wife Loretta Helmboldt;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin siblings, Gerald and Geraldine; his sister, Reba and his brother, Glenn.
