MERRIHEW, Gale E. “Pops” – of Birch Run, age 94, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Birch Run Fields. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Clio, Michigan. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Michigan. Memorial contributions can be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or Birch Run Fields Assisted Living.
Gale was born April 27, 1926 in Weidman, Michigan to the late George and Effie (Pennington) Merrihew. He grew up in Weidman, Michigan and attended Weidman High School. On July 21, 1946 he married Betty Bowen and she preceded him in death in 2016. Prior to his retirement in 1993, Gale worked for GM as a Millwright with 42 ½ years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 599. Gale enjoyed woodworking, gardening and dancing. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his friends and family.
Surviving are: Sons, Dale (Patty) Merrihew of Birch Run, Michigan, Duane Merrihew of Atlanta, Georgia; Grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Merrihew, Lisa Kern, Scott (Elizabeth) Merrihew; 10 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister, Aletha Chaffee; several nieces and nephews; Special Friends, Rick and Susie Moreno, Keith and Wava Vallier, John and Rhonda Laney. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Betty Merrihew; Siblings, Theron Merrihew, Audrey Stanley, Zelpha Small, Roland Merrihew.
